Peak power and transient-current operation

Seconds-duration peak output 53.3 A / 1920 W for up to 5 seconds in the specification table. Availability is restricted by the input-voltage, ambient-temperature, duty-cycle and average-power limits below; this is not a continuous rating.
Peak timing and average power Simultaneously satisfy t ≤5 s, duty cycle t/T ≤35%, and P_av = [P_peak × t + P_non-peak × (T − t)] / T ≤ rated output power. The input-specific peak-load curve can require a much lower duty cycle than 35%; observe its lower limit.
Peak-load curve scope At 200 V AC, the graph shows 35% duty through 1440 W (150%), 10% at 1680 W (175%) and 5% at 1920 W (200%). The separate 100 V AC curve is more restrictive; follow the exact input-specific curve rather than treating the 200 V AC points as low-line capability.
Published peak-cycle example The XDR-960-24 example at 200 V AC uses 1920 W peak, t = 5 s and 5% duty, requiring T ≥100 s and non-peak power ≤909.5 W. This is an example with its stated input and output model, not a blanket peak allowance for every configuration.
Transient peak-current table For 100–132 V AC / 180–305 V AC input respectively: 3 × rated current at 50% / 66% rated output voltage for 100 ms; 4 × at 37% / 50% for 70 ms; 5 × at 30% / 40% for 40 ms; 6 × at 10% / 10% rated output voltage for 15 ms. Allow at least 15 seconds of rated-load operation between events.

Protection, remote control and monitoring

Overload and short-circuit response 105–200% of rated output power; when overload continues for more than 5 seconds, constant-current limiting at rated current operates without shutdown within 30–100% of rated output voltage. Below 30% output voltage, protection uses hiccup mode.
Overvoltage protection 43–50 V; output shutdown, cycle input power to recover.
Overtemperature protection Output shutdown with automatic recovery after the temperature falls. Follow the separate safe fault-service procedure before handling or restarting an installed system.
Remote ON/OFF Output ON when RC (pin 9) is shorted to +5V_AUX (pin 10), giving 4–5 V. Output OFF when open, with RC at 0–0.5 V. Maximum control input 5 V DC; an external control supply is referenced to isolated GND_AUX (pin 7). +5V_AUX is for remote-control signaling only, not a rated auxiliary load supply.
DC OK relay Control connector B pins 1 and 2: contacts close when the supply is ON / DC OK and open when OFF / DC fail. Maximum resistive contact ratings: 30 V DC / 1 A or 30 V AC / 0.5 A. These are external-circuit relay-contact ratings, not a powered output.
ORing FET and inverse-voltage protection Built-in ORing FET protects against back EMF from a motor or inductive load. The maximum allowable reverse voltage for this selected output is <50 V; keep the load-generated voltage below that limit.
Active current sharing Up to four units can be paralleled through CS (pin 4) and GND (pin 3), with TC left open. Match output voltages to a difference below 0.2 V. Use short, large-diameter power wiring and twisted CS/GND pairs. Total output current must not exceed rated current per unit × number of units × 0.9.
Parallel minimum load and series capacity Minimum load must be greater than 5% × rated current per unit × number of units. Below 5%, only a master may operate while slave LEDs and relays remain off. The feature summary's up-to-3840 W (3+1) is a series-level configuration reference; use the selected model, 0.9 current factor and required redundancy to determine usable load capacity.
Status LED Green: normal output; three green flashes: factory reset. Steady red: DC fail. Red fault flashes: 1 overload (>150% of rated current at 115 V AC or >200% at 230 V AC), 2 overvoltage, 3 overtemperature, 4 inverse output voltage, 5 other faults including AC undervoltage or communication/EEPROM failure. Continuous red flashing indicates a high-temperature warning.

Thermal limits and operating environment

Working and storage environment Working −40 to +85°C with derating, 20–95% RH non-condensing. Storage −40 to +85°C, 10–95% RH non-condensing. Natural convection; no fan.

Model-specific digital commands and readback

Digital output commands VOUT_SET 36–42 V, tolerance ±0.36 V, default 36 V. IOUT_SET 5.33–33.32 A, tolerance ±0.26 A, default 26.66 A. These are command ranges and current-limit parameters, not continuous output ratings; preserve the main-table 26.6 A / 957.6 W rating and derating limits. Modbus adjustment of voltage/current disables peak and transient functions.
Readback ranges and limits Input-voltage readback 80–305 V, tolerance ±5 V; output voltage 0–45 V, tolerance ±0.36 V. The manual's XDR-960 READ_IOUT rows are labelled 12/24/36 V although the physical family is 24/36/48 V; confirm the current-readback mapping for the supplied model/firmware rather than shifting the columns. Temperature −40 to +120°C, tolerance ±5°C; output-power display scale 1920 W, tolerance ±38.4 W. These are measurement ranges, not allowable input, ambient-temperature or continuous-load ratings.
Programmable protection and alarm thresholds Manual command ranges: DC OK 70–95% (±1%, default 80%); overload alarm 70–95% (±1%, default 90%); transient peak-current setting 125–600% (±6%, default 600%). AC-fail threshold 74–264 V AC (±5 V, default 74 V); AC-OK threshold 79–269 V AC (±5 V, default 79 V). Threshold settings do not extend the specified operating input range or peak limits.

Applications, reliability and packing

Typical applications Industrial control systems, semiconductor fabrication equipment, factory automation and electromechanical apparatus. For constant-current charging, use the dedicated charging configuration and disable peak functions as required.
Reliability MTBF minimum 819.6 K hours by Telcordia SR-332 (Bellcore); minimum 113.3 K hours by MIL-HDBK-217F at 25°C.
Unit weight and packing 2060 g per unit as the catalog PACKING reference; carton 6 units / 13.4 kg / 1.49 CUFT. This is the catalog per-unit packing reference, not a separately measured net-weight promise.

Installation and system verification

Installation safety and protective earth Installation and service are for qualified personnel. Use the supply indoors in a dry, well-ventilated, restricted-access location. Disconnect input power and prevent accidental reconnection before wiring or maintenance. Connect FG / PE to protective earth, keep liquids and foreign objects out, and avoid touching hot surfaces. Do not disassemble, modify or replace parts yourself.
GL mounting procedure The GL kit is for XDR-960 wall or panel mounting and is recommended for high-vibration / DNV applications. Remove the DIN clip, attach the brackets to the back of the case with M3 × 8 screws tightened to 5 lb-in, then secure the assembly to a flat wall or panel with M4 screws. Use the kit contents and mounting dimensions stated in the mechanical section; the DIN-rail installation sequence does not replace this GL procedure.
Ventilation and thermal layout Keep at least 40 mm clear above, 20 mm below and 5 mm at each side; the manual recommends a 5–15 mm side allowance and 15 mm next to a heat source. Keep all ventilation openings clear. Apply the selected model’s input and temperature curves together; an operating-temperature range alone does not promise full load.
Copper wiring and current distribution Use copper conductors with insulation rated at least 80°C, such as UL1007 or UL1015. The manual pairs AWG 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 / 2 with recommended equipment currents 3 / 6 / 10 / 16 / 25 / 32 / 40 / 63 / 80 / 100 A and cross-sections 0.5 / 0.75 / 1 / 1.5 / 2.5 / 4 / 6 / 10 / 16 / 25 mm². These are manual recommendations, not exact AWG conversions or permission to exceed this model’s terminal capacity. With five or more wires, reduce each recommended wire current to 80%. Insert all strands, secure them and wire all output terminals to distribute current.
Terminal preparation Use the selected connector’s stripping lengths and capacities in the main mechanical table; the manual’s generic 5 mm stripping example does not override them. Blank types use screw terminals, LA types use tool-free lever-actuated terminals and PI types use push-in terminals. For the screw-terminal type use 5.8 kgf·cm (5 lb-in); a 3 mm slotted screwdriver is recommended. Use the separate DC and AC DC OK relay-contact ratings stated above, rather than the manual’s abbreviated contact summary.
Branch protection reference At 230 V AC the manual lists 2 units on a C16 breaker and 2 on a D16 breaker for XDR-960, and a recommended fuse specification of F20A / 300 V or 420 V AC. Select protection for the actual installation and inrush conditions. The fuse entry is a specification reference, not a separately supplied accessory or permission for unqualified internal replacement.
Peak functions and constant-current operation For the 10-pin interface, short TC pin 5 to GND pin 3 to enable peak power and transient peak current; opening this connection disables both according to the manual. In constant-current charging applications keep TC open. When MODBus is used to adjust output voltage or current, both peak functions are unavailable. PEAK_EN only takes effect with TC and GND shorted. All enabled peak operation still has to meet the model-specific time, duty-cycle, input, temperature and average-power limits.
MODBus connection and timing MODBus RTU is available on this model. Connect D− pin 6 and D+ pin 8, referenced to isolated GND_AUX pin 7; use an isolated RS-485 / USB converter where required by the system. The manual recommends common-ground connection and 120 Ω termination at the controller end. Default communications are 115200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity and no flow control. Minimum request cycle is 20 ms, maximum response latency 5 ms and minimum packet interval 5 ms. Word data are big-endian; CRC-16 is sent low byte first.
MODBus addressing and control selection Assign a unique device address; the manual gives 80h–BFh, default 83h, and broadcast 00h for writes only. Address changes require an AC power cycle. Function 03 reads holding registers, 04 reads input registers and 06 writes one register. Enable MOD_CTRL in SYSTEM_CONFIG before communication control and cycle AC as instructed; factory default is potentiometer control. RC pin 9 must still be linked to +5V_AUX pin 10 for output enable. Verify settings after writing; measurement and command ranges do not extend continuous output or input ratings.
Parameter storage and protection configuration SYSTEM_CONFIG permits immediate EEPROM writes (default), writes after parameters remain unchanged for 1 minute or 10 minutes, or disabled storage. Select a suitable mode when making frequent changes because EEPROM write endurance is limited. Power-on operation can be OFF, ON (default) or the previous setting. PROTECT_CONFIG selects constant-current overload mode (default) or immediate latch-off, and enables back-EMF protection by default. These settings are for the documented digital interface; they do not establish a separate analog PV/PC interface.
Fault history and factory reset The non-volatile event log retains the three latest fault events in 0x0921–0x0923, one event per register. Write 0xAA to CLEAR_LOG 0x0910 and restart to clear the documented fault history / counters. To restore configurable factory settings, write 0xAA to RESET_DEFAULT 0x00C6; the green LED flashes three times, then restart. If an EEPROM error shuts the output down with the LED off, resolve the error and restart before operation.
Fault handling and manufacturer warranty After a fault, remove its cause before restarting. For overvoltage, cycle AC after correcting the condition. If overheating occurs, disconnect AC, clear the ventilation / loading cause and let the unit cool to normal temperature (the manual advises approximately tens of minutes) before re-powering; this service procedure is separate from the main specification’s automatic thermal-recovery behavior. If the fault persists, contact MEAN WELL or an authorized distributor. The manufacturer states a 5-year warranty under normal usage; unapproved part replacement or modification can affect it.
Complete-system EMC verification Verify EMC with the supply installed in the finished equipment and connected to a representative load. Wiring, assembly and the application affect the result. Retain the selected model’s EMC conditions; component test results and this EMI guidance do not certify the complete equipment.

Follow the source lines between marked points and apply input derating simultaneously.
    Peak ambient-temperature curve At 85–132 V AC: peak-load ceiling 150% through +55°C, 120% at +60°C, 90% at +70°C and 20% at +85°C. At 180–305 V AC: 200% through +60°C, 150% at +70°C and 20% at +85°C. The plotted cold-temperature ramp and all timing, duty-cycle and average-power limits still apply; these are peak ceilings, not continuous ratings.
    Input-voltage load curve AC curve at 60 Hz: 85% load at 85 V AC, rising to 100% at 100 V AC and remaining at 100% to 305 V AC. DC curve: 50% at 80 V DC, 85% at 120 V DC, 100% at 140 V DC and through 431 V DC.

Power-terminal wiring AC input: 18–10 AWG; DC output: 16–10 AWG; both solid wire 6 mm² maximum. For this Blank terminal option, strip 10–11 mm. Screw-terminal torque 5 lb-in.
Signal connector and mating wire JS-2008R-2x05 connector; mating housing JS-2007-2x05-BK and contact JS-2007-T, or equivalents. One mating wire assembly per model is listed as standard: H20J1-10B or equivalent, UL1007 28 AWG, 50 mm. Verify exact mating geometry and pin order.
GL supplied hardware and installation Two GL brackets, four M3 × 8 screws and four M4 × 8 screws. Remove the DIN clip, fix the brackets to the back of the case with the M3 × 8 screws at 5 lb-in, then mount to a wall or panel with M4 screws. GL is the selected whole-unit mounting option, not a separate power rating.
GL installation drawing Installed drawing: 165.8 mm overall height around the 125.2 mm case; bracket spans 68.8 mm and 48.8 mm; mounting centers 58.8 × 152.9 mm; four Ø5 mm holes; installed depth reference 140.84 mm. Use the drawing extension lines for exact endpoints.
