| Installation safety and protective earth |
Installation and service are for qualified personnel. Use the supply indoors in a dry, well-ventilated, restricted-access location. Disconnect input power and prevent accidental reconnection before wiring or maintenance. Connect FG / PE to protective earth, keep liquids and foreign objects out, and avoid touching hot surfaces. Do not disassemble, modify or replace parts yourself. |
| Vertical DIN rail installation |
Mount vertically with the input terminals below and output terminals above. Tilt the unit backwards, engage the upper rail edge, slide it down to the stop and press the bottom until it locks; gently check the latch. Use TS35/7.5 or TS35/15 rail. Non-standard orientation, poor ventilation or high ambient temperature requires appropriate derating. |
| Ventilation and thermal layout |
Keep at least 40 mm clear above, 20 mm below and 5 mm at each side; the manual recommends a 5–15 mm side allowance and 15 mm next to a heat source. Keep all ventilation openings clear. Apply the selected model’s input and temperature curves together; an operating-temperature range alone does not promise full load. |
| Copper wiring and current distribution |
Use copper conductors with insulation rated at least 80°C, such as UL1007 or UL1015. The manual pairs AWG 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 / 2 with recommended equipment currents 3 / 6 / 10 / 16 / 25 / 32 / 40 / 63 / 80 / 100 A and cross-sections 0.5 / 0.75 / 1 / 1.5 / 2.5 / 4 / 6 / 10 / 16 / 25 mm². These are manual recommendations, not exact AWG conversions or permission to exceed this model’s terminal capacity. With five or more wires, reduce each recommended wire current to 80%. Insert all strands, secure them and wire all output terminals to distribute current. |
| Terminal preparation |
Use the selected connector’s stripping lengths and capacities in the main mechanical table; the manual’s generic 5 mm stripping example does not override them. Blank types use screw terminals, LA types use tool-free lever-actuated terminals and PI types use push-in terminals. For the screw-terminal type use 5.8 kgf·cm (5 lb-in); a 3 mm slotted screwdriver is recommended. Use the separate DC and AC DC OK relay-contact ratings stated above, rather than the manual’s abbreviated contact summary. |
| Branch protection reference |
At 230 V AC the manual lists 4 units on a C16 breaker and 4 on a D16 breaker for XDR-480, and a recommended fuse specification of F16A / 300 V. Select protection for the actual installation and inrush conditions. The fuse entry is a specification reference, not a separately supplied accessory or permission for unqualified internal replacement. |
| Peak functions and constant-current operation |
For the 10-pin interface, short TC pin 5 to GND pin 3 to enable peak power and transient peak current; opening this connection disables both according to the manual. In constant-current charging applications keep TC open. When MODBus is used to adjust output voltage or current, both peak functions are unavailable. PEAK_EN only takes effect with TC and GND shorted. All enabled peak operation still has to meet the model-specific time, duty-cycle, input, temperature and average-power limits. |
| MODBus connection and timing |
MODBus RTU is available on this model. Connect D− pin 6 and D+ pin 8, referenced to isolated GND_AUX pin 7; use an isolated RS-485 / USB converter where required by the system. The manual recommends common-ground connection and 120 Ω termination at the controller end. Default communications are 115200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity and no flow control. Minimum request cycle is 20 ms, maximum response latency 5 ms and minimum packet interval 5 ms. Word data are big-endian; CRC-16 is sent low byte first. |
| MODBus addressing and control selection |
Assign a unique device address; the manual gives 80h–BFh, default 83h, and broadcast 00h for writes only. Address changes require an AC power cycle. Function 03 reads holding registers, 04 reads input registers and 06 writes one register. Enable MOD_CTRL in SYSTEM_CONFIG before communication control and cycle AC as instructed; factory default is potentiometer control. RC pin 9 must still be linked to +5V_AUX pin 10 for output enable. Verify settings after writing; measurement and command ranges do not extend continuous output or input ratings. |
| Parameter storage and protection configuration |
SYSTEM_CONFIG permits immediate EEPROM writes (default), writes after parameters remain unchanged for 1 minute or 10 minutes, or disabled storage. Select a suitable mode when making frequent changes because EEPROM write endurance is limited. Power-on operation can be OFF, ON (default) or the previous setting. PROTECT_CONFIG selects constant-current overload mode (default) or immediate latch-off, and enables back-EMF protection by default. These settings are for the documented digital interface; they do not establish a separate analog PV/PC interface. |
| Fault history and factory reset |
The non-volatile event log retains the three latest fault events in 0x0921–0x0923, one event per register. Write 0xAA to CLEAR_LOG 0x0910 and restart to clear the documented fault history / counters. To restore configurable factory settings, write 0xAA to RESET_DEFAULT 0x00C6; the green LED flashes three times, then restart. If an EEPROM error shuts the output down with the LED off, resolve the error and restart before operation. |
| Fault handling and manufacturer warranty |
After a fault, remove its cause before restarting. For overvoltage, cycle AC after correcting the condition. If overheating occurs, disconnect AC, clear the ventilation / loading cause and let the unit cool to normal temperature (the manual advises approximately tens of minutes) before re-powering; this service procedure is separate from the main specification’s automatic thermal-recovery behavior. If the fault persists, contact MEAN WELL or an authorized distributor. The manufacturer states a 5-year warranty under normal usage; unapproved part replacement or modification can affect it. |
| Complete-system EMC verification |
Verify EMC with the supply installed in the finished equipment and connected to a representative load. Wiring, assembly and the application affect the result. Retain the selected model’s EMC conditions; component test results and this EMI guidance do not certify the complete equipment. |
